What does it mean to feel good?

We all want to “feel good” but what does it mean to feel good to you? Are you looking for your body to feel free of aches and pains? Are you looking for your moods to stabilize and find greater emotional regulation? Would you like to stop your “monkey mind” and learn to relax? Do you need to diminish stress from your life or just learn to handle stress better? And then, there is also the ongoing question of what we eat. What is the right diet for me? After all, food is the fuel we deliberately feed our bodies to have the energy to function in life.

Each of these questions can be hard to answer and often, there are many areas we want to tackle. We have no idea of where to begin. Thus, we may find ourselves thinking about one or more of these areas we want to address and then we let it go. Staying focused and even beginning to walk the path is daunting. It is overwhelming. You may ask yourself, “Where do I begin?”

Wellness is different for everyone

The word “wellness” is commonly used today. It often describes and represents many things. As a result, the concept of wellness has become diluted. Just seeing it or hearing it doesn’t catch our attention as it did 15 years ago. What “wellness” means differs for each of us. Most of us want greater wellness in our lives, yet most of us do not know how to get it or begin.

I intend to pique your interest in clarifying your unique path to wellness. Here are two tools that can assist you, The Wellness Wheel and the Enneagram.

The Wellness Wheel

The Wellness Wheel is meant to help you decide where to begin. Notice the center circle which is the relationship to the personal self. Your self, interacting with the areas, below will look different than others you know. Each of the outside circles changes as we grow and develop ourselves. Consequently, these external circles also interact with other outside circles differently as our life shifts. Thus, most of us will look different than others. Consider the areas of wellness you might want to tackle and choose one or prioritize them.

The Enneagram and Wellness

Enneagram Types & Their Wellness Perspective

Each type has an avoidance. To accommodate the avoidance and meet the goal, it’s helpful to know the avoidance. The Enneagram diagram above illustrates that there are 9 unique patterns in people. Each type has a unique way of seeing the world, thinking, managing emotions, and behaving. Each of these patterns impacts how we see health and wellness.

Here are a few tips looking at how each unique type looks at wellness.

Which type are you? We all have some characteristics of each of the types, but ultimately, we are mostly one type. You may want to find out more about the Enneagram types by taking a test to find out. Here is a link to one Enneagram test. More information to follow.
